Background: I have to users on my anki mobile and can only synchronise one. I mostly use ankimobile.
But now I wanted to share a deck with friends and i used anki web. Luckily synchronisation worked this time, but it said:
Unfortunately, the default deck can’t be shared at the moment. Please move your cards into a new deck using the computer version, and then try again.
How do I do that? And does this then really work. Do I have to syncrhonise from anki web if i create a new deck? I am afraid that it’ll get lost…
Thanks for your help!
An AnkiWeb account can only sync with one profile/user. If you’re trying to sync both “users” with the same AnkiWeb account, you’re just overwriting one collection with the other collection each time.
That’s correct. If you want to Share a deck on AnkiWeb, it can’t be the “Default” deck – even if you’ve renamed it to something else. That’s a special deck that’s part of your database when it is first created. Take all of those cards, and move them to a different deck.
The error message says you can only do that on desktop, but you should be able to do it in AnkiMobile now too.
- If the deck has been renamed from “Default” – rename it back to that.
- In Browse – search up the cards –
deck:Default
– select all of them – Actions > Change Deck.
- After you do this, the Default deck will be empty, and it will disappear.

Thank you, it worked! Do you also know how to move the decks between the users? I would like to synchronise all of my decks
You can use export/import to do that. These directions are for merging 2 collections on different devices, but merging to 2 collections in different profiles will be the same. Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual
