Cannot use the "Import from Quizlet add-on"

Hi,

I am on an Apple Macbook Air 2017.

I followed the following set of instructions in order to import my German vocabulary flashcards from Quizlet:

  1. Anki on Desktop>Tools>Add-ons>Get add ons…
  2. Paste in the following numerical code and then click OK: 538351043
  3. Restart Anki.
  4. Open your web browser and navigate to the Quizlet deck that you want to import. Copy the URL.
  5. In Anki, go to Tools>Import from Quizlet
  6. Enter the Quizlet deck URL, then click Import Deck

The numerical code worked and the add-on appeared in my “Tools” tab when I restarted the app.

However, when I paste a URL from Quizlet, I get the message “Sorry, this is a private deck :(”

I tried other decks as well, and even duplicated the deck and ensured that it was “visible to everyone”, but I continued to get this error message.

If anyone could help, I would be very grateful - thanks

That add-on is named “Zzz (not working) Improved Quizlet to Anki 2.1 Importer,” and hasn’t been updated since 2020. It doesn’t work.

Unfortunately Quizlet frequently changes their site, breaking add-ons. But you should find a more recent Quizlet importer – there are several on the add-ons page, https://ankiweb.net/shared/addons – and check the reviews to see if it has been working for users recently.

Hi, thanks. All sorted now - initially began having “throwing exception 403” errors once I downloaded the new add-on but looked at the FAQs and managed to get the words imported (had to get rid of accompanying audio though annoyingly).

I learned a trick a while back for this add on from someone else. Still works every time.

  1. Pull up the add on.
  2. Put the link in.
  3. Go the html section and click on it.
  4. On that quizlet page, I right-click somewhere to the side.
  5. View page source.
  6. Copy that whole thing & then paste it into the html box in the add on.
  7. Import deck.

I say that because I don’t know if I’m using the current version of the add on or not. I’ve only had it a a little over a year. So maybe the new version resolves it; maybe it doesn’t; maybe the problem comes back.

This works consistently enough it’s worth sharing. I laid it out very simply so it looks longer and harder than it is. It’s actually quick and seamless.
