Myself, my wife and my son are all learning a new language. I want to build a deck myself so we can learn some vocabulary. Each note will be 2 sided with words, pictures and audio clips. I will create 2 or 3 notes per day and I want to add them to 3 decks on 3 different Anki installations (all desktop).
I will create the notes on my own Anki desktop app. What is the easiest way to copy those new notes to my wife’s and my son’s decks?
The easiest way is to export them from your collection and import them into the other 2 collections. [I’m assuming that you’ll each have your own collection/profile and your own AnkiWeb account.]
But if you’re looking for a more automated way to distribute these updates, you should look at collaboration/deck-subscription platforms, like AnkiHub and AnkiCollab (and maybe CrowdAnki?).
It might be more efficient to create them in larger batches for export/import, and then just introduce the cards at that slower pace.
All right, thank you @Danika_Dakika . I went on my Anki desktop, and it seems I can select notes and export them as apkg. I guess this is what you had in mind, am I correct?
Yes, that’s the way. Export/import them without scheduling information and each of you will have a separate deck with your own progress. If you find you need to make updates to some notes later on, this will work for that too. Packaged Decks - Anki Manual
@BobTheBuilder , if you can have access to their decks from the Anki desktop client on your computer, you can import those updates directly into their decks.
I do that for some of my less technical friends, who are studying topics along with me. It may take a couple of minutes each, but it makes the whole experience for others much easier and less (technically) stressful.
Yep, that will work too. To do that, you’ll need to create separate Profiles for each of them on your computer and set those up to sync to each of their AnkiWeb accounts.
Thanks @Danika_Dakika . Just one last question to be 100% clear: if I export the same note again and re-import it in, say, my wife’s deck, will that remove her scheduling information for this card?
It won’t. If Anki identifies the note as a duplicate, it will follow the import instructions for whether to update the note or skip it. If Anki doesn’t identify the note as a duplicate, it will create a new note. But it won’t change the review history for any cards made from that note.
(See the link above about what makes Anki identify the note as a duplicate.)
