Bug when closing and opening Anki

I have been repeatedly experiencing a bug when closing and opening my Anki. It appears to stay perpetually active upon close and its start up time is nearly a minute and always pops up with an unspecific “there was a problem, might be an add-on”

I have done the troubleshooting before and couldn’t pinpoint it.

I have just recently updated my anki to the newest version (problem has been persisting since long before) and when opening it today, got this debug info:

Anki 25.09.2 (3890e12c) (ao)
Python 3.13.5 Qt 6.9.1 PyQt 6.9.1
Platform: Windows-11-10.0.26200-SP0

I just attempted to restart it and Anki refused to start for a minute but then showed no debug issues. Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Does the problem still occur when you run Anki in safe mode, with all Add-ons disabled? See troubleshooting step #2: Troubleshooting - Anki Manual

If the problem doesn’t occur in safe mode, then it is likely that one of your Add-ons may be causing the issue. You can follow the instructions in troubleshooting step #2 to find the problem Add-on.

Opening in safe mode was fine, then reopening normally was suddenly not an issue??? Kind of odd.

You still might want to work on that list of add-ons. Start by disabling every add-on and only enable the ones where (1) you know exactly what it does and (2) you know that you’ve used that functionality in the past week.

Try running like that for a while. If you find you’re missing some specific add-on functionality, you can enable it, but try to enable just one at a time, so if you start to see errors again, you’ll have a better sense of what is causing it.

Great idea. Thanks
