Auto Advance - iOS Lock Screen

Hello, I am trying to find a way to allow Auto Advance to continue while the iPhone screen is locked. So that I can listen to the cards as the phone is in my pocket. Is this possible? At the moment as a workaround I have been using iOS Guided access to prevent touch on the screen while it is in my pocket. But this leaves the screen on and drains the phone battery extremely fast.

I’m afraid Apple are quite strict about what apps are allowed to keep running in the background. They allow exceptions for things like audio players, but I suspect they’d push back against Anki trying to do this.

It’s not a great example of an app overall but ā€˜MemTalk’ allows the audio to play while the screen is locked. Is it an idea that can be submitted to Apple for approval first perhaps? Would love it as a feature to make the most out of the auto advance + audio.

I’m afraid I don’t think they have a formal pre-approval process, and there’s always the risk of some future app update being rejected because a different reviewer made the decision. Given that this is a fairly-infrequently requested feature, it’s hard to justify the risks at this time.
