Anki (Windows (Version ⁨24.11 (87ccd24e)⁩)) import behavior problems

I’m keeping 2-field vocab items in a text file, and I’d like to add new words to learn and just import the text file again.

Which worked fine before the latest version.

In the latest version of Anki, Import has 2 problems.

  1. It doesn’t recognize semicolon delimited text files as before. (So I have to manually select semicolon.)
  2. It adds every note in the file as a new card, even thoough I’ve selected “Update”

Both appear (to me) to be bugs.

Is it possible that you have another potential delimiter character in your file that Anki sees first? That can interfere with the automatic detection.

But regardless, it sounds like it will streamline your process to set the correct delimiter in a File Header.

  • What are all of the import options you’re selecting?
  • Has anything changed about your note type or the 1st field of the notes?
  • What note type are you using? Are you selecting that in your text/CSV file, or in the import options?

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I figured out that setting the delimiter (and other things) in each text file is the way to go.

But I’ve made no progress on the repeated cards.

Oops. Yes, I have! Thank you. Your point to check the note type got me straightened out.

It seem the new import processing was getting a different note type, so it re-added the notes with the different note type.

My bad. I had made a special note type for this deck, but was actually using another note type (they’re all the same except for the name). For some reason, all the previous import dialog processing guessed/defaulted to the other note type, so I was blithely bopping along unawares.

But the new import processing is doing that differently (probably better/more correctly). Kewl.

Anyway, thanks!
