Anki sync. How to transfer from phone to phone?

So I got a new phone but no matter what I did it was impossible to sync my Anki deck from my old phone to my new phone. Everytime I only got my Anki web version. On my old phone and new phone I kept syncing to replace AnkiWeb with AnkiDriod. But I guess it never took. I then decided to select sync with AnkiDriod to be replaced by AnkiWeb on my new phone . Then on my old phone I went to sync AnkiWeb with AnkiDriod. But when when it finished it was AnkiWeb. I tried to restore backup but all I get is the deck from AnkiWeb. No matter what restore point I choose it is the ankiweb deck. Either that or when I synced before it was never saved correctly. Basically I deleted cards I already know so I know it’s not the same since there are hundreds of cards that I had already deleted.

So this is a warning for all to never sync replace with Anki web even on another device and a question

Let’s take this in stages. First, let’s see if you can get the collection on your old phone restored – because it sounds like that’s the one you want to keep. Then you can push that to AnkiWeb and download it to your new phone.

You need to be very careful when you get the one-way sync message, because only one version of your collection will be saved.

After you overwrote the collection on your old phone with AnkiWeb’s version, you only needed to go back to the previous backup immediately before that. If you’re going back further than that, to before you deleted those “cards” – yes, they will be restored too.

However, were you trying to delete individual cards or entire notes? You can only delete notes, which deletes all of the cards made from the notes.

  1. Restore the most recent backup on your old phone before you mis-synced. That should be the right one, but if it’s not, check each one of them going back until you find the one you want.
  2. Go to Settings > Sync > One-way sync, and approve that.
  3. When you Sync, choose upload to AnkiWeb.
  4. When that finishes on your old phone, you can sync on your new phone, choose download from AnkiWeb.
