Anki stays in Sync mode. Can neither close it nor shut down the laptop

Somehow Anki stays in the synchronisation mode it goes into before you can close it and I can’t close the windows. Been like this for a few days now and I tried restarting or shutting down my laptop (Mac) and deleting the application altogether (both do not work as Anki is still open xD). I also tried letting my laptop run out of battery to restart it that way… it just popped up again.

I hope someone here can help me figure this out!

After closing Anki, you can hold down the shift key while starting Anki again to prevent the automatic sync - maybe something else is popping up as well.
