Anki Remote Customization and AMBOSS Add-On Integration

I know that I am only one of many people who have expressed grievances regarding AnkiMobile. It is a great app with tons of potential; it just needs some extra attention, especially with it being the paid counterpart to Anki. With the recent change in management along with what has been in the works, I am hopeful about the future of the application and Anki as a whole.

One massive improvement to AnkiMobile (aside from the general browser experience and inability to have add-ons) would be in the Anki Remote mapping department. Currently, AnkiMobile only supports single-tap recognition gestures when using the remote. When using Anki on my PC, one of the most useful features is the ability to assign dynamic input, tap, and hold inputs. With the different add-ons like AMBOSS and Anking, there are so many different keyboard shortcuts and functionalities. On my PC, I am able to fit the majority of them into my workflow via the use of tap and hold gestures; however, having only tap gesture recognition means that if I am using AnkiMobile, my functionality is essentially cut in half.

Continuing along the same premise, I would enjoy the ability to use the AMBOSS pop-up explanation features on AnkiMobile while using my remote. It is possible on PC, but again, there is not functionality for it on Mobile. I am unsure if this is an AMBOSS dev fix or AnkiMobile fix. Regardless, it would be a great feature. AnkiMobile also doesn’t recognize the iPad Magic Keyboard gestures as taps, but rather hovering, leading to AMBOSS definitions only popping up temporarily as opposed to staying open when a finger tap is used.

I understand that these suggestions and issues may seem niche, but everyone’s learning style and workflow are different. At the end of the day, all we want is to learn in the most effective and efficient way possible. Anki is great, and I appreciate all of the hard work that goes into keeping it running. I hope that none of my suggestions sound unappreciative.

Happy learning!
