Anki not opening on Tahoe 26.3

I’m redownloading anki for the first time in 4 years. I recently upgraded my mac os to Tahoe 26.3. Whenever i download anki, then open it, it starts to spazz, and then 1 second later it quits and I get a pop-up that “anki quit unexpectedly”. I have gone through and deleted all old anki apps and decks that I could find on my computer. I tried following the directions on other posts, but I am still having trouble. Can someone please walk me through how to fix this? This is the error I am getting:

You are saying that you deleted the entire /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFiles directory, is this correct? (That is the way to delete the actual Anki installation. The stuff in /Applications/Anki.app is just the Anki Launcher, not main Anki.)

When was the last time you successfully ran Anki on this computer? Was it 4 years ago? Or, have you been running Anki successfully all along and started encountering problems only recently?

(Just for tracking purposes, the “MacBookPro17,1” model is MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020).)

when i type Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFiles in my finder, nothing comes up. So im guessing that means it doesn’t exist, correct? (see pic)

I successfully ran anki probably 2 years ago. I have not used it since. Same computer, but upgraded software in the last 2 months

You are looking in the wrong place.
It’s not: /Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFiles
Instead, it is: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFiles

(Where <username> is your username on that particular computer.)

where should i be typing this in to??? the terminal? or in finder?

okay now i see what you mean. I found these files when typing /Users//Library/Application Support/AnkiProgramFiles

I then deleted these files. I went to re-open anki, and I got this pop-up:

That is the Anki Launcher menu telling you that if you want to install the latest version of Anki, just press the Enter key. (And, then wait. The installation process can take up to 10-20 minutes to complete.)

Please be aware that there are some hidden files/directories in the AnkiProgramFiles directory that are hidden by default. To toggle visibility of hidden files/directories in the Finder window you can press Cmd + Shift + . (period).

You probably didn’t see or delete these hidden files/directories. If you experience further problems during the Anki installation process, you might want to start over, making sure that these hidden files/directories are deleted. (Or, better yet, just delete the entire AnkiProgramFiles directory altogether, not just its contents.)
