Anki Media Sync TAKING DAYS!

Hello all,

I have been having insane amounts of trouble with my anki for the last two weeks. Both app and desktop version. I use my anki for med school so I have a lot of anki cards but never have I had this much trouble before. I uploaded the anki decks onto my desktop and sync them to anki web so i can use them on my iPhone and iPad.

  1. I am using the latest version
  2. I literally had to redownload my entire anki decks and reupload them one by one and the first two worked but as soon as i uploaded my third one, the anki media sync has been going on for one week now. I’ve restarted my computer, disbaled add ons, literally left it on overnight (which then says network timed out or error URL () over and over and over again.
  3. I’ve disabled firewall and tried
  4. I’ve literally left on for 7 hours checking periodically but still no media sync completion
  5. I’ve deleted all unused files
  6. I’ve checked data base and it’s all fine
  7. I’ve tried everything except sacrificing a human soul to the gods and I’m tired

I am so depressed and distressed because my exams are in a month and i need to use anki on both my phone and my desktop because when I’m commuting or at the gym I can’t use my laptop.

Please help

It’s not clear from your message where your collection currently is, and where you’re trying to sync it to. It would probably help if you would clarify that.

Have you tried –

  • Run Check Media and deleted your unused media so that you have less media that Anki needs to waste time syncing? You mention doing this, but you still have over 4GB of media in your AnkiWeb account.
  • Extend your network timeout so that Anki can have time to get past the file/files that are in the way?
  • Manually copy your media to get past this initial sync?

My anki media is on my desktop Mac and yes I’ve tried deleting unused and I have over 4GB because I have a lot of cards. Over 50k. And I have had this before, if not even more cards with no problems. This is a new problem. Nothing to do with the amount of media I have.

I have extended the network time on all my devices.

I don’t think copying my media will work because as above 50k+ cards and many of them have some form of media.

Did you do that now or had you done that already? What did you change the timeout to?

If you’re getting other errors besides timeout, you probably have a connection problem that you haven’t eliminated yet – Error establishing a secure connection when syncing - Anki FAQs . Make sure you’ve got all VPNs and proxies turned off, including iCloud private relay.

I don’t understand why you think that it wouldn’t work. Your devices are struggling to sync the media over the internet. A one-time manual copy would save all of that effort for this initial sync.

thanks!

I can’t possibly spare 20+ days just to manually copy every single anki card.

Whatever you’re thinking of is not anywhere close to what I am suggesting: a one-time copy of a COLPKG file. Please read the link.
