Initial sync from desktop (Mac) to AnkiWeb taking forever

I have been trying to upload my Anking deck to the AnkiWeb to use the Anki app on my iPhone. The first time I tried, it quit overnight because of a connection error. Now it’s already been syncing for 5 hours and it says “24301 media changes to upload” “736218.8kB up, 9.4kB down” – is it really only 0.00001277% done?? The “up” number keeps getting bigger too. At this rate, I feel like it will never finish.

Is this normal? How long should I let it sit before aborting the sync and trying again? Is there something I should be doing differently?

Also, due old software on my computer, I’m only using Anki version 2.1.14, which I’m sure doesn’t help.

Up and down describe the direction; you can’t derive a percentage from it. The process will continue until all your media files have been uploaded; by the looks of it you have quite a lot.
