Anki Launcher Error : Failed with code Some(-1073741819)

In Windows 11, I tried to update Anki, from 25.02.7 to latest version, using the file ‘anki-launcher-25.07.3-windows’

But it doesn’t work…the message is,

Anki Launcher
Error: Failed with code Some(-1073741819): C:\Anki\uv.exe run --no-project C:\Anki\versions.py
Press enter to close…

How can I fix it?

If you run this command in cmd.exe, do you see any error messages?

No messages. Thanks!

It doesn’t work as well.

What does the latest launcher version say when you try to run it?

anki-launcher-25.08b4-windows.exe

Please install the latest launcher, run it, and copy&paste any text you see from it here:

There seems to be something wrong with your system. Would you be willing to run some cmd.exe commands/other changes to potentially isolate the problem?

I have the same problem with the same error message as CJKIM shared 2 posts above.

Why would a user need to know how to run cmd.exe to figure out how to use the product? Should I also study C++? Would you expect a consumer to know how to weld a circuit board to use a microwave?

We only want to have a product that works. If it means we use an older version, then so be it. Why update to a newer version and have it not work?

We all want a product that works, and we all do our best to try to achieve this. But, despite everyone’s best efforts, sometimes things just break and need to be fixed.

When things break, sometimes we need help from users to understand and fix the problem. For example, we might ask users if they would be willing to to run cmd.exe commands to provide us with information. Some users are able and willing to do so, and we are grateful to them.

Other users might not have the technical ability to help. Or, perhaps it is very important to them that they be able to use Anki immediately, so they would rather just downgrade to an older version instead. All of this is perfectly fine, too. There is no obligation for users to help us fix problems. (But, if they do help, we are grateful and problems might be fixed faster.)
