Anki keeps getting blank when I’m studying. It seems that it is the only one with this problem, along with a program called “Pomotroid” (Brave Browser, for example, doesn’t seem to be affected by it). When I close the program with Task Manager and reopen it, it gets back to normal, but after some minutes, it happens again. It seems that the problem only happens with the “Add” window and the “Review” window.
Anki version (I updated it today): Version 24.06.3 (d678e393)
Looks like the addon was last updated more than four years ago and, at least on its addon page, does not list it as being supported on recent versions of Anki.
Which one? I tried to open Anki holding shift and the problem still occurred.
The only one you mentioned in your post.
Pomotroid is a program completely separated from Anki. It has nothing to do with it. I mentioned it because it freezes as well.
Ah, there is a Pomotroid addon for Anki as well. I assumed it was the same one you were mentioning.

Isn’t there a solution for this?
Change your video driver in Preferences
On Windows, there are three ways of content being displayed on screen. The default is software, which is slower, but the most compatible. There are two other options that are faster: OpenGL and ANGLE. They are faster, but they may not work, or may cause display issues such as missing menubars, blank windows, and so on. Which one works best will depend on your computer.

What add-ons do you have? Most blank screen issues are fixed by changing the video driver, but idk if there are add-ons that causes blank issues
I’ve disabled all of them
I’m using Qt6 already. Maybe I should try to download older versions of Anki until I find one that doesn’t freeze?
Thank you for the information on the add-ons!
I know this is a frustratingly mysterious issue, but it will save you a lot of repeat suggestions if you include a link to the things you already tried on Reddit. Reddit - Dive into anything
Folks here might be able to help you figure out next steps that way.
Thanks, Danika! I tried to download several other older versions, but it still happens.
Have you tried using Qt5?
See if your windows have updates as well
You got all my best bets already. You can look through again to see if you tried everything. But I was mostly posting it so other helpers wouldn’t have to start from 0, so they weren’t wasting your and their time.

I just downloaded it (Version 24.06.3 (d678e393), Python 3.9.18 Qt 5.15.2 PyQt 5.15.5) and, after 15 minutes of adding cards, it happened again. When it happens, I cannot quit nor force quit the program, I have to open the Task Manager in order to close it.
Is there no solution to this problem then?
That’s a really good Pomodoro timer. Thanks for sharing this program despite didn’t maintain for 3 years from the repo. I’ll check it out if have time.
