Anki Fails to Launch - Process Starts and No GUI (Windows)

Hi all,

I’m seeking help for an issue where Anki fails to start on my computer. This problem started recently without any apparent changes to my system.

Symptoms:

  • Double-clicking the Anki shortcut does nothing.

  • In Task Manager, I can see anki.exe appear.

  • No error dialog or crash report is generated.

  • When I secondly open it, it show me “You should close process or restart computer and then open”

Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Tried:

  1. Restarted my computer.

  2. Completely uninstalled Anki (using Revo Uninstaller to remove leftover files and registry entries) and reinstalled the latest version from the official website.

  3. Tried running Anki as an administrator.

  4. Temporarily disabled my antivirus/firewall (Windows Defender).

The issue remains. This seems to be a problem with the Qt GUI framework failing to initialize or render the window properly. It might be related to graphics drivers, display scaling, or a corrupted window state/profile.

Has anyone encountered this before? Any guidance on how to get Anki running again would be a lifesaver. Thank you for your time and help.

Some users reported Anki taking a while to launch (~30s) but your issue might be different.

Can you try running anki from anki-console.exe (you can find it in Anki’s installation folder) and post any output you get?

Later, I found out that it was a problem with the Windows operating system when applying for ports. But by the time I realized it, I was already reinstalling the system. This issue is inherent to Windows itself; any application that applies for ports will encounter problems, including my note-taking software. It seems that the problem can be solved through settings.
