Anki Duplicate Cards

Hello,

my friends and I study medicine together and we send each other on and off anki cards. However, as some of the modules are repetitive, we gradually learn the same stuff. For this, we sometimes use Anki cards that already exist in other decks and like to collect them in a new deck specifically for the current module.

With this background, it would be of great help if anki cards can exist in both decks. Currently, we need to work around the issue by creating different users; however, this leaves a great mess in our structure.

A possible solution could be to ask if decks are wished to exist as duplications when a new deck is imported.

Why don’t you add a specific tag to the notes of interest and access/learn these cards via this tag?

Duplicating cards has the side effect that the scheduler doesn’t know how often you failed and passed the card, meaning scheduling gets worse.

You should do e.g. what ferophila said above.

Aside from that, there already are workarounds for your request like having an ID field that is different for both cards, while all other fields are identical.

In our specific case, we use an already existing deck from former students and adjust it when needed. Putting in tags for each card would be very time consuming. Thank you for the idea though!

I see, thank you for the feedback.

However, in our case the scheduling is not of importance, as the curriculum we study in is not designed for longtime learning. We have exams every 6 weeks and afterwards begin a new module. Therefore, the best solution for us would be a tool that allows to have duplications of cards as wished.

You can select any number of notes from the browser view, filter them by all sorts of content/metadata and apply tags in bulk to them. Working with existing notes seems much more efficient than keeping track of duplicates.

I see, I will suggest this to my working group.

I do sometimes work with tags as I also use the Amboss deck when suitable. I must say that I much rather work with decks, as it gives me some kind of structure.
