Anki displays update screen but won't update and won't opem

When I open anki, it shows the screen to update but won’t update when I press enter. I’ve already tried restarting my computer and force quitting the app. What do I do?

An important note about updating to 26.05 (and later)

The upgrade feature in launcher-based versions (25.07 to 25.09.4) cannot be used to upgrade to 26.05 due to packaging changes.
