Anki desktop Sync Freeze

I have Anki 2.1.26. I haven’t updated to the latest stable release because all the add ons I use aren’t all formatted to the newest version. The last few days when I open the Anki app on my desktop I get a pop up asking if I want to update, and the sync starts, but freezes midway through. I can bypass the sync by going into the system preferences. It tells me the issue is due to an add on, and to disable it. Once the initial opening sync is bypassed, the app opens and works like normal (including syncs).

If I disable all my add ons and try restarting anki, I continue to get the same error message. If I bypass the initial sync by going through the system preferences, the app can then open and function normally. But I’m afraid that this is not a long term solution, and I worry that I’m at risk of losing my entire deck collection.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on, and what I might be able to do to fix it?

Here is the Error Message for why the sync freezes when the app opens:
