Anki desktop app stuck on creating backup

Anki was working fine last night on my desktop but now it keeps getting the error “your files appear to be corrupt”. This issue does not affect my phone app or my laptop that I sometimes use.

This particular wording isn’t something I have encountered so far (mind to share the whole error message?) In case your database has been corrupted, you can restore it from a local backup (Backups - Anki Manual).

It will not allow me to open the switch profiles page so I cannot restore off a local backup.

Anki then goes into an endless loop of “backing up”

To get the Profiles window open – try restarting Anki while holding down Shift (until you see the confirmation message).
