Anki cards overwritten during sync — need help recovering previous collection

I accidentally overwrote my Anki collection during synchronization. I was trying to add new cards and an option appeared for synchronization. After syncing, my current collection was replaced with the cards from my laptop.

I would like to recover the previous version of my cards (the collection that existed before the sync).

I have checked AnkiWeb, but I’m not sure if the previous collection is still available. Could someone advise me on the best way to restore my previous cards?

Was this in on another device, in the app? You can restore from the automatic backup made immediately before that mis-sync – Restoring an Automatic Backup (Recovering from Data Loss) - Anki FAQs .

Is the version of your collection you had on that device (before the mis-sync) the most current and updated version – or are there updates on multiple devices that you’re trying to merge together?

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out

Yes, the collection I lost was the most current and updated version. It was replaced with an old collection of cards I had on another device.

You didn’t quite respond to my questions, so it’s not clear if I can help you, or if you can help yourself. I understand that the old version of your collection was on one of your devices.

Where was this “most current and updated version” of your collection – the one that was overwritten? Was it on a device, in one of the apps? Or was it on AnkiWeb, the website version of Anki? If it was on AnkiWeb, do you have that version of your collection on any of your device?

You said that this happened when “an option appeared for synchronization” – which suggests it was definitely in the app, and not on the website.

Yes, it’s on the app. I have been able to restore the collection is lost. Thank you.

I followed the instructions for instructions on the link yoy shared with me:

Sorry for the double emails. I mistakenly pressed send while typing.
