An Anki Add-on for Automatic Simulation Visualization (Cross-posted on r/Anki)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to propose an add-on that enhances the simulation feature of the Anki Simulator add-on by making it more accessible. Currently, users must manually configure settings and trigger the simulation each time they want to see it. Although the simulation provides a great motivational boost, the extra steps can be a barrier—especially for busy students.

Key Features:

• Automatic Simulation Display:

The add-on would automatically display a simulation diagram as soon as a deck is opened, removing the need for any manual triggering.

• Dynamic Visualization:

The diagram (e.g., the current diagram, a bar chart, timeline, or similar visualization) should be generated based on predefined simulation settings and update in real time to reflect the most current data.

• Customization Options:

Users should have the option to adjust visualization settings (chart type and color scheme) to tailor the display to their preferences.

• Compatibility Note:

If you already use an add-on that displays information on deck open, you might need to disable the conflicting one to ensure smooth operation.

I want to clarify that I’m not a developer myself—I’m offering ideas and feedback on how such an add-on could work. I’m hoping to spark discussion and get input from those who might be interested in developing or refining this idea.

what’s the use case for live simulations on deck overview, especially given that the simulation wouldn’t change a lot from day-to-day? my understanding is that sims are only useful when modifying the settings. also, if sims do significantly change from day-to-day that means the simulation isn’t good to begin with, no?
