Always getting only the launcher, not the full app, when downloading Anki from the official site

Problem description:

I’ve tried several times to download the Anki desktop app for macOS from the official website, but each time I only receive a small launcher file (named something like anki-launcher-25.07.3-mac.dmg, around 33 MB). When I open it, it doesn’t install the full version of Anki – it seems to just redirect or install a lightweight stub without the actual app.

I’m using a MacBook Air (M1, 2020) running macOS Sequoia 15.5, so my system should support the latest version.

Is there a direct download link to the full Apple Silicon version of Anki (not just a launcher), or something I’m missing?

Thanks in advance!

You’re not missing anything I think. The launcher is supposed to install Anki on your machine. Is it not possible for you to simply run it?

Same here, I drag the app into the folder and click open, it pops up a terminal window saying anki launcher.

It’s likely waiting for a network request. If you’re still having trouble, please update to the 25.07.5 launcher and try again, making sure to wait a few minutes in case it’s just slow.
