After reading a book, I have a bunch of highlights. I don’t want to memorize them or turn them into Q/A cards. I just want to re-read them with an incremental interval.
My problem is that if I set them up as partially clozed cards or something similar, it becomes too time-consuming to go through them—when all I want is to re-read them with increasing intervals, not memorize them.
I could solve this problem using the SM-2 algorithm by setting intervals like 1d, 7d, 30d, etc. But I use FSRS and enjoy it, and I don’t know how to realize this with FSRS, since it doesn’t recommend steps longer than 1 day.
I also fear that just reviewing highlights from books could harm my other cards’ scheduling, since FSRS might assume I’m actively recalling them—when in reality I’m just passively re-reading.
I recommend allowing something like learning steps for passive reviewing, not for active recall—so that people who want to simply review text incrementally (like incremental reading) can do so within Anki. This idea is already workable with SM-2. But I don’t know if it’s safe or okay to do this with FSRS, as it might (or might not?) impact my other cards.
I would be thankful for any advice or help with this.
I hope I was clear in explaining this idea of simple re-reading text inside Anki.
I think it would be good to allow in Anki not just active recall but also simple incremental reviewing—like incremental reading. It doesn’t require any major changes, just the will of the Dae and others.

Screw FSRS, you are using it in an untended way anyway! You can leave the learning steps empty, or set them to whatever you want (for this preset obviously).
You could also consider not using learning steps to do this, and just adjusting the Desired Retention on that preset to get the scheduling you want. FSRS can space out your “reviews” without you needing to control them.
My problem with incremental reviewing in Anki what if I would hit good multiple times in a row FSRS in that preset would think my memory is so good that it could start give to me very long steps like months.
And my problem with setting learning steps like 1d 7d 21d etc what FSRS cannot see them if I understand FSRS correctly it might gave to me shorter interval then my last step.
For now for incremental reviewing I am just using separate preset with FSRS and just hit good.
Is that realistic to implement something for simple incremental reviewing in Anki with FSRS turned on at least in long run? Like with SM-2 I can just use separate preset with long learning steps beyond 1d for that need.
FSRS can see them. And it can kind of see same-day reviews. Except for same-day reviews it only sees grades (Again/Hard/Good/Easy), not interval lengths.
Basically, if your reviews happened on different days, FSRS will take into account both the grade and the interval length. If they happened on the same day, then only the grade is used.
Could you please tell me, if I set up learning steps like 1d, 7d, and 30d, would my mature intervals after learning be shorter or longer than 30 days (with FSRS turned on)?
