Storing images in WebP is a great way to reduce the size of Anki’s collection.
WebP lossy images are 25-34% smaller than comparable JPEG images at equivalent SSIM quality index.
Could it be possible to add an option to paste images as WebP by default?
IMHO, users should be able to choose among PNG, JPG & WebP. In such a way, people with very large decks with many images would be able to reduce by 30% their deck’s size. That is important on mobile devices with limited space. Furthermore, it takes a lot of time to do a full sync after editing a note type…
Agreed, this would be most useful. So many online image are in the WebP format, and converting them (to jpg /png) for Anki takes time.
Oddly, Web format images are accepted into Anki via one Mac, but rejected on another. Thou this may be a macOS config issue. (Also, they seem more prone to file damage).
Will try the " Paste Images As WebP for Anki " add-on. But, with thousands of imported images - most of which present Ok - not yet ready to risk a bulk-convert.
