Add on that I'm unsure exists

Hi everyone who’s reading this. Sorry to trouble.
Lately I’ve came to the realization that once I’ve learned a word well enough, there doesn’t seem to be a need to keep reviewing that card. For example, if a card I’ve been reviewing eventually has a greater than a 1 year wait time until its next review, I’ve basically learn it. Therefore, it would be necessary to even review that card a year later, as it would still be to easy to recall.

I was wondering if there’s an add-on that makes it so when cards have more than a years wait until there next review, it automatically deletes the card. This is a very specific add-on so I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t one or if no-one knows of one.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps! And no worries if a solution isn’t found.

As far as I know there are no add-ons that auto delete cards, removing cards has these disadvantages:

  1. Review heatmap streaks will be lost
  2. Stats data will be lost.
  3. Cannot detect duplicates of cards already learned
  4. Cannot create a new card from an old one

So it is common practice in Anki to save cards even if they are no longer needed. As you say they may not be needed anymore, but cards over a year old rarely show up so there is very little advantage to deleting them. (In other words developers have very little incentive to develop it.)

1 year seems like a very optimistic timeline. I’d wait probably wait for at least a 3y interval before taking action.

I agree with Shige, deleting is an aggressive solution. Have you considered just suspending?

You know, it wouldn’t be too hard for you to do this on your own. It wouldn’t be automatic, but it would be a nice confidence boost to see how many cards you’re taking across the finish line.

You could make a saved search with metrics you think are appropriate – interval, lapses, reps, Difficulty, etc., and -is:suspended – and every month or so, run that search, gaze at those lovely cards that have served their purpose, and Select All > Cards > Toggle Suspend.
