Windows Anki 24.04.1 crashes with self-hosted sync server

Hello!

I updated the anki-sync-server to the latest version and converted the plain text passwords to hashed passwords. On Android everything works great, but on Windows Anki crashes after logging in. Switching back to plain text passwords didn’t help. After downgrading Windows Anki to 23.12.1 everything works.

Does it still happen with the beta in the beta testing section of the forum?

Yes, 24.04.2beta1 also crashes a few seconds after trying to login, with the crash dump file appearing in %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps. The “mpv.exe” process remains in memory after the crash.

On Linux everything works, just like on Android.

Logs on the web server:

89.25.x.x - - [17/May/2024:09:36:21 +0200] "POST /[_edited_]/sync/hostKey HTTP/1.1" 200 70 "-" "-"

Update: Qt5 version works!

If you have a bit of time, could you help us debug this? After logging out, with the Qt6 version, does the crash happen for you both when logging in from the preferences screen, and when clicking on the sync icon in the main window to log in?

  • after switching to Qt6 (with credentials saved in Qt5) sync works
  • logging out works
  • logging in from the preferences screen causes the crash
  • clicking on the sync icon works!

Thanks for confirming. I’ve pushed a change that should hopefully resolve it; it will be in the next beta.
