Anyone aware of a somewhat natural way to get Greek text-to-speech? The one Apple provides has an unpleasantly unnatural rhythm. (And doesn’t appear to adequately emulate punctuation.)
Have you tried the add-ons listed in ankiweb?
I’ll look, but this particular need is outside of Anki. I just couldn’t think of a better place to ask. All the Greek-related forums I’ve been able to find are dedicated to ancient Greek!
Take a look at refold.la discord servers. Their official guide recommends Anki so most language learners there use it.
It is for language learning, and I do use Anki, but this is an item not suitable for Anki—a 1584-word file that I need to listen to while I read along. All the TTS I’ve found so far looking around either have poor quality, or they sound like a human reading at high speed a list of words he/she doesn’t understand. In other words, no rhythm or intonation.
(Aside: I will definitely look at refold, though, to see whether it is something I can use.)
You can set up a Google Cloud API (it will cost you nothing with regular use) and then use your API key to try the different TTS models with the HyperTTS add-on.
and blabolka
The github app would be quite promising (if the voice quality is better than the ones I’ve already tried) and if it would run on an Apple device.
The other URI is to a server not currently online, but the archived 28 April version reveals that it is also Microsoft-only.
sorry i can’t help with a mac issue. generally speaking, most solutions on mac / ios are paid. more free options exist for windows / android
perhaps you should google free tts websites
Have you tried the plethora of online services that offer best-in-class TTS via Anki add-ons?
Don’t know for Greek specifically, but I’d suggest you to try the Microsoft Azure Neural one. It’s not per se free, but the free tier is large enough to generate hundreds of mp3 without having to pay a centime. I integrated it with hypertts.
For Japanese, I tried most of the others and they were meh at best.
I used ElevenLabs. It sounds more natural in modern greek. You can adjust the parameter to suit your style.
