When to start learning new cards

hello everyone,

I just read a thread that makes me think of something I might be doing wrong.

when I’m adding new cards to a deck, I’m reviewing them right away (I have to new cards in stock). I admit it’s not technically a review as there is no chance I won’t remember the cards as I just added them.

I think that FSRS gets confused with my strategy as it recently decided to drastically shorten the first review interval because I wasn’t good at that “second” review (when my overall true retention rate is currently 95% so I’m really good at the next intervals). I think it makes sense because this first review is not really a review so the first real review is actually the second one.

is that something you normally do ? or is it better to wait until the next day to review these new cards ?

thank you.

Personally, I wait one day before studying newly-added cards. If I happen to add cards to a deck before I’ve finished my reviews for the day, I “bury” the new cards so they won’t show up until the next day.
