When pressing custom study it doesn't allow me to

This occurs both on the Mac desktop app and the third-party iOS client.

When I finish a deck of cards, and I go to “custom study” to increase the limit temporarily, it fails to let me study. This has happened ever since I created my account. It just loads for a second then goes back to the “Custom Study” page.

Also, I may as well put it here, twice now I have logged in to my Anki account (granted, months apart, I’m now using it daily though) to find that my cards and decks have all disappeared. Not sure what caused this, but I’m now doing backups just in case - anyone else experiencing this?

This happens in my deck too. It happens with decks that have sub-decks where all your cards are in fact in the sub-decks. The top-level deck’s temporary review limit (the custom study option shown after finishing) or the Today only setting (in the deck options) only applies to cards within that deck - even if the sub-decks are using the same deck config. You actually have to also set the temporary review limit in the sub-decks too. This seems kind of buggy to me too.

No Idea on this, sorry. I haven’t experienced this personally over years of use.

yeah, I do have all of my decks in subdecks for their subjects, then subdecks for topics :sweat_smile: - so if I apply something to ‘GCSE’ will it apply that limit to the subdecks?

Oh, that’s annoying. I have a screenshot here from messages with my sister from around a year ago (asked her since she helped me set it up) and you can see in this one pic I had cards there, which have since just gone from what I can tell.


When you say “months apart” do you mean 6+ months?

If you do not use ankiweb / sync Anki for more than 6 months the online copy of your data will be deleted. You should have received a warning email before it happened.

Ohh I missed this! Yeah it must have been. I’m using it much more now so that’s fine!

I also think I may have uninstalled it from my laptop in between (?) which would explain why I can’t sync back the old ones anymore.
Just to check, I have the Anki desktop app on my Mac (desktop), Windows laptop and the iOS client, if I keep these installed and sync frequently, will they be ok?

You can edit the Preset value, that’ll apply to all decks using the deck config.

Another small gotcha: a deck that has Today only selected (like in the screenshot currently) will ignore the Preset value. So if you were editing your sub-decks options and tried enabling Today only, those need to be switched back to Preset.

Yes, you should be fine.

N.B. Using the desktop & mobile clients only counts as active when you sync.

If you spent 6 months using only your windows app for example, and didn’t sync in that time your account would still be deleted.
