What’s the max limit for importing a text file?

Hello there!

I’m trying to import a large .txt file, about 660MB, but Anki keeps closing before any register import is completed. The maximum .txt file size supported is unclear and no warnings are shown. Here is the last window displayed:

As far as I know there are no errors in the text file content format since there’re no headers and each register has only 3 fields separeted by ’ ; ’ , each of them of reasonable size.

In conclusion, is this the intended behaviour? What’s the max limit for importing a text file? A warning shouldn’t be shown to the user trying to import a file past this limit?

Thank you in advance!

I don’t think there is any limit on Ankis side. You’ll probably be limited by your RAM, though that isn’t really an issue with your current file size.

No, Anki shouldn’t crash.

Maybe try the following first (especially 2,3,4):

If this doesn’t help, try to run anki in a terminal and see if any errors or warnings are printed.

Btw, I just tried it with a text file with approx. 900 MB worth of data and over 1,300,000 notes. Sure, it took a little while. But it worked flawlessly.

Meaning if there was a limit in Anki, you couldn’t have reached it with your file, which is several hundred MB smaller than mine.
