when i try to import a deck i get this error : ‘utf-8’ codec can’t decode byte 0xb5 in position 1: invalid start byte
i have tried changing the file to utf-8 but then i get an error saying its not a valid file.
- Is this an APKG file? [I don’t know what you’re doing to change it to utf-8, but definitely don’t try to change the file.]
- Is this a publicly shared file, or a file you got from someone you know?
- What version of Anki are you using (Help > About > Copy debug info)?
- Do you have Tools > Preferences > Editing > “Legacy import/export handling” enabled?
Hello,
its an akpg file
i got it from someone i knew via whatsapp
Version 2.1.49 (dc80804a)
Python 3.8.6 Qt 5.14.2 PyQt 5.14.2
I cant find the editing section under preferences..Ive just got the tabs basic, scheduling, networks and backups.
I’ve imported files before and have had no problem before though.
Thanks !
This version is almost four years old. Are you able to try with a newer version of Anki?
You will probably need at least version 2.1.54 in order to read .apkg
files produced by recent versions of Anki.
