Will my anki usage and deck shared by a third party be available offline? I paid for the mobile app. Using Anki to learn Japanese vocabulary, kanji and stroke order, and wondering if it will work on the plane to Japan even if there is no WiFi. Recently I tried to use Pimsleur on a plane. Paid $500 for lifetime all language access. I made a point of downloading ten lessons in advance of my flight. Then it would not work because the airplane wifi was out, and my Pimsleur app would not work when it was unable to connect to confirm my license.
Turn on “Airplane Mode” on your smartphone and find out if it works.
I don’t have this app myself, so I can’t say for sure.
But if the deck required external images or sounds, it certainly wouldn’t work without internet access.
As long as you’ve synced your collection prior to boarding the plane (away from wifi) so it’s on your phone you will be able to access, and use, the app without internet access on the plane.
Your review progress, and history, will be preserved locally and you can sync once you have network access again later.
Source: me, lots of travel and lots of downtime. Anki works like a charm, even away from wifi ![]()
thank you
that seems so obvious after you pointed it out; it had not occurred to me; thank you
