If I update my Anki, are my decks going to dissappear? Should I back up my decks?
As a regular user, I’ve never had my decks disappear after an update. Still, making periodic back-ups is never a bad, I would say!

Your personal collection data, media, options, preferences, local backups, add-ons, configs, etc. is all stored on your computer in a separate location from where the program is installed. Upgrading, or even uninstalling, doesn’t touch your data at all.
