Trying to sync to AnkiWeb for the first time and I keep getting an error message

Hello,

I am trying to sync my Anki Decks to ankiweb for the first time (I use the app on my mac) and I keep getting this error message:

Syncing failed:

I was reading some other forums and figured I may need to update my version of Anki, but as I’ve never synced before and was wondering if this would cause me to lose all of my decks/data? Or will the data carry on from the old decks to the new version? (My USMLE Step 1 is in a couple of weeks so I’m nervous about playing with all the Anki settings)

Please help and thank you!

when you install a new version of anki, anki will keep all your data (cards, deck, review history, etc.)
just close the version of anki that you have and install the newer version. you don’t need to worry about losing anything.
