Title: AutoReorder reset reviewed cards to New after sync. Can AnkiWeb restore a recent snapshot?

Hi, I had a major sync issue today, August 1, 2026.

I use Anki/ankiMobile on iPhone for all of my reviews, and Anki Desktop on Windows only for mining Japanese cards with Yomitan. After syncing today, a large number of cards that I had reviewed over the last roughly three weeks suddenly appeared as New cards.

The cards’ review histories are still present in Card Info. for example, a card can show a First Review and Latest Review, along with its past learning/review entries, but its browser Due field now says New #... and its current Review/Lapse counts are zero. So the cards seem to have been reset to New rather than deleted.

I have confirmed I was not using a filtered deck and did not manually use Forget/Reset/Reschedule. The likely cause appears to be the AutoReorder add-on (ID 757527607), which I had installed. I found an older forum report describing the same behavior: cards reset to New after sync while retaining their review history. I have now deleted AutoReorder.

Unfortunately, the available PC and AnkiMobile automatic backups are already after the reset. I also tried downloading from AnkiWeb, but the affected cards are still New there, so the bad state appears to have synced already.

Is there any possibility of restoring my AnkiWeb collection from a server-side snapshot from shortly before today’s sync? Or any solution someone might know?

I don’t think they save all the changes to the server every time, as I see from user requests that the data can be very, very old.
But it’s all saved automatically on your computer:

That sounds like you created a sync conflict. See this comment for how that happens and what to do about it.

While restoring from an automatic backup (or a server-side backup) to get back to where you were before is usually possible, it’s not a good idea for you here, because you’d have to redo all of those reviews. In your situation, fixing the scheduling like I described in that other thread is a better solution.

Yes, add-ons are often the cause of sync conflicts.
