Hi there, hopefully anyone has some idea of what’s going on in my case.
When I sync from laptop the sync box says: Added/Modified: 0 up / 2 million or so download.
That’s strange because I don’t have that many cards.
When syncing is done, I’m syncing on ankimobile and that one too is going to 2 milion or so.
When I open just one card on my telephone and not even reviewing it but immediately return “homepage” the synchronize text “button” on the bottom right turns from blue to orange, indicating that there’s something that has changed? I don’t get it.
When I click the orange synchronize the sync box pops up again and counts towards 2 milion again.
Syncing again from laptop: the same, always 2 milion.
Started when I used python script to change some album covers in a field box.
On my account I can sync laptop and iPhone simultaneously — the normal ‘only one copy can sync at once’ error only appears when I interact with ankiweb.net during a sync. This seems abnormal.
Reviews I do on my phone are uploaded normally to ankiweb and when syncing to my laptop, so seems to be working still it is annoying as …
Hopefully this is enough information for anyone to tackle this issue I’m having
Please help,
Thanks in advance,
Erwin
That isn’t counting cards necessarily – it’s counting records/files that have been added/changed. So those might be card records, but they also might be: review logs that have been added to your collection, or new notes you’ve created, or media files that have been added, etc.
That would happen if you’ve done anything that Anki syncs – even something as simple as selecting a different deck, or expand/collapsing a subdeck on the Decks list.
It sounds like whatever changes you made there would have modified all of those notes, and also would have created a batch of new media files and a batch of unused media files. It’s possible you’re seeing those huge sync numbers because Anki is still struggling to keep all of that synced. Or – is there any chance that you’ve got something running in the background that is continuing to update your database?
I see a couple things of note when I look at your collection on AnkiWeb –
-
Your collection database is big – over 220 MB. That’s still under the 300 MB limit, but it’s a lot bigger than typical, and that limit could sneak right up on you. There can be good reasons for a database of that size, but there can also be issues that are solvable.
-
At the very least, you should run Tools > Check Database to make sure everything is tidy. If you want to look further, here are some other places you can check.
-
After you do that database check on your device that has the most updated version of your collection, you might want force a one-way sync to fix the other copies of your database – Preferences > Syncing > On next sync force ....
-
You have a huge amount of media in your collection – over 42 GB (that’s not a typo). You’re storing that media on each of your devices, in addition to the server, so if it’s no longer needed, you should get rid of it. Tools > Check Media > Delete Unused Media is the way to do that.
- But if your devices haven’t yet gotten completely in sync, you might want to hold off on this until they are, or else Anki might “helpfully” restore all the files you’ve deleted.
