Suggestions + Questions: How to add audio to the back of a card (Windows)

I have ZERO experience in code beyond original HTML. CSS is like a new language to me and I do not speak it.

I have searched the forum and the closest answer I can find is a link to a video that is about TTS, which is not what I want. Besides, I think the video was for Mac and not Windows.

First, the suggestions:

I have read over the manual on everything related to keyword: audio and there is no clear description on how to add audio to a card. They speak of fields and {{audio}} and whatever, but I cannot figure this out and by looking through similar questions, I think on-site video tutorials are something to consider.

Another suggestion I would like to make is to create an option for decks or sub-decks to turn off the “Duplicate Card” warning. Some decks will need the warning, but others will only be an annoyance because it is unapplicable.

I want to make a “basic card” clone that I will rename to Basic with Audio (actually, I already cloned the Basic Card and renamed it). On the front, I want a typewritten word in French. On the back, what the word means in English (so text, which may include other textual things) and a button (I have no preference what the button looks like) that will play an mp3 (that I downloaded) of the French word spoken by a French native. I do not want it to auto-play. I just want to click on a button to make it play.

In addition, I want to make what I will call “Listening Cards”. These will have no text on the front of the card, but will have an audio file for the French word. I then have to type what I hear on the front and the back will reveal the correct answer.

Then there is the issue of the incessant “duplicate card” warnings which will go into effect since the front of the Listening Cards will be “Type the Word”. I read one solution to change the card type, but that is insufficient, because then the cards will reverse themselves when using them, completely defeating the purpose of the exercise.

I do not want to use TTS. I want and need it to be a native speaker.

Is anyone willing to work with me on these issues? I know it is probably a repeat answer but my search results have led me to answers that CSS people understand, or instructions that do not exactly match my needs. I’m sure there is an answer out there but I’ve literally spent days trying to work this out.

Many thanks to anyone who can help me.

I also wish to thank the developers for their much-needed work. Complaining is not what this post means. I really do appreciate it!

I know you deleted this message just now, but can you point out specific things that you do not understand?

Me and a few others would be happy to work on specific examples to make the manual easier to understand.

Thank you for those links! The Audio link I’ve read before, but it really does not explain what I want to do.

The templates videos are wonderful! Though there are still missing elements for coding audio.

I very much appreciate your input. I initially replied but realized I had not yet seen the videos, so I deleted it. Sorry about that. lol!

ETA: When I add {{Audio}} on the back of my audio template card, it tells me:

Back template has a problem:
Found ‘⁨{{Audio}}⁩’, but there is no field called ‘⁨Audio⁩’
More information

The information does not explain to me what a field is and how I am supposed to add a field, nor the syntax of a field. Where would I put the field and how do I write the field? A field to me is a database entry name in Access.

I want to show a button to play the audio, rather than it just autoplay the sound once and in fact having it autoplay at all.

In that case, I recommend you read the short getting started guide:

Hmm. I did read that in its entirety, but it was a few days ago. Perhaps when I first read it I was unsure how I was going to go about setting up needed items that I did not predict, like the audio files. I’ll read it again. Can I come back to you here if I have any questions on this same topic? I mean, the way I am trying to set up my cards as described in my original post? Not any other topic, but this specific one.

Sure.
