Subdecks don't show up in deck overview

Hello!

I’ve downloaded a deck that was uploaded to my university forum anonymously (so I can’t ask the owner if the problem is with the deck).

When I open the flashcards or go into the card management (see second and third attached screenshot), I can see that the deck is organized into many subdecks, however, the subdecks don’t show up in the overview (1st screenshot).

Since it’s a big deck, I want to study by subdecks instead of learning all 5000 cards at once.

I tried to create my own subdecks but it got really messy so I deleted them again.

I’m hoping there is a way to make the existing subdecks appear in my deck overview.

I don’t see any subdecks. It looks like the organization that is applied to these decks is a Tag hierarchy, not a subdeck hierarchy. (And that’s recommended, so kudos to this deck author! Adding/Editing - Anki Manual) That’s what you’re seeing displayed on the cards and in the Tags field at the bottom of the note editor. You can expand the Tags tree in the sidebar to see what you’re looking for.

For decks like this, a common technique is to suspend all of the cards, and un-suspend them tag-by-tag when you are ready for them.
