My friend tried to share an anki deal with me, but when I try to open it I get this note saying: This will delete your existing deck (collection) and replace it with the data in the files you are importing. Are you sure?”
Please note that I’ve translated the note from danish to English.

Ask your friend to share with you a deck package instead (.apkg). Please see Exporting - Anki Manual
