I would like to be able to make new cards appear for the first time on a certain date, while they still are seen as new cards by the system, because I haven’t yet reviewed them for real.
Currently, you can set the review interval and review date of a card, but this automatically puts the card on the review pile. I would like it to be in the new pile.
I would like to have this functionality to plan reviews ahead for subsets of cards that I already know well. For instance, if I know a certain type of card is easy, I could schedule 20 such easy cards per day for the next weeks, and have Anki fill the remaining space with as many randomly gathered other new cards as the new-card limit allows. This could balance the difficulty of review sessions, because I could spread out the easy cards homogeneously across a time period.
As for the implementation, I think it is best to let these ‘scheduled new’ cards count towards the new-card limit, like the regular new cards. New cards would then be gathered in this order:
- First gather from the overdue scheduled new cards, from old to new scheduled date,
- then gather from today’s scheduled new cards,
- and then gather in whatever way the new-card-gather options say for this deck.
