Review sort order - Deck, then due date troubleshooting

I have a deck with subdecks

Parent deck (and children) are set: Review sort order - Deck, then due date

The reviews are not sorted by subdecks (which I have prepended 1, 2, 3, 4 to sort) and are instead random between subdecks

Do I need to somehow reset the parent deck for this option to take effect?

Is this setting dependent on other settings, or am I misunderstanding it?

Anki will use the display order from the deck you select to study, and not any subdecks it may have.

The subdecks’ order do not matter (if it did, how do you think Anki will behave when one the display orders were different). What is the display order in the parent deck/the deck you’re clicking on to open review screen?

Sorry if this is unclear, each deck is meant to mean that for each “deck with subdecks”: this includes parent parent deck as it is a deck

maybe this is clearer:

The parent deck is set to: Review sort order - Deck, then due date

If the deck you’re clicking to study has the correct sort order I don’t believe you need to do anything else. What are you seeing when you click to study from the deck?

Thank you for the help!

After more fiddling:

My issue is that “learn” cards were superseding “review” cards. making it seem as if reviews were not sorted

Hopefully this short-sight can help others
