Revealing hint reveals card back

When I click or press “h” to reveal hints, some apparently random proportion of the time the hint reveals the card back. This is frustrating since I inevitably often glimpse the answer before I had a chance to think of it myself.

It’s hard for me to debug this problem since it’s intermittent, and I suspect for the same reason it’ll be hard for others to help me debug it. Nevertheless, if anyone has any suggestions for things to try, or things I might consider doing to avoid this issue, I’d appreciate it!

FWIW it happens on a number of different note types, so I don’t think it’s something specific to just one note type.

Have you tried the Troubleshooting Checklist – Troubleshooting - Anki Manual? It could be add-on related (see #2), but it sounds an awful lot like one of the video driver problems we hear about – so you might want to start at #6, restart after each change.

OK, I’ve changed the video driver. Unfortunately due to the intermittent nature of the problem it’ll be a few days before I can be sure that it’s helped.

Unfortunately changing the video driver doesn’t seem to have had any effect on this problem.

  • Did you try all of the video driver options?
  • Have you tried the rest of the things suggested above?
