Reset Completely Cards as New

I tried various solutions I found here such as exporting without including the scheduling, but It still “doesn’t work”.

I’m using this addon https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/757527607 to reorder new cards by Frequency field.

But I’ve noticed with old cards I’ve Reset with the Anki function, they don’t get sorted properly despite that; as in they are retaining their “history”

These are old cards I had from an old deck that I wanted to keep and reset.

When I sort by New you can see they don’t get aligned with their Freq field:

unlike these new cards I mined in the past year or so:

Something to note is, the old deck was made when I still used the old algo and not FSRS, now i’m using FSRS; not sure if it matters for this. I just don’t get why it’s so hard to reset a card completely and make it so it get sorted properly by Freq; anyone knows how to fix this? thanks in advance.

Did you delete the notes before importing them back?

That should work, but if it doesn’t, you can export them as txt, delete, and import.

I’m not sure what you get from that add-on that is better than built-in functionality, especially if it’s not working right.[1] It seems like using Anki’s own Reposition feature is an easy alternative.

To re-order your New-queue, sorted to match the “Freq” field –

  1. Set the “Freq” field as the Sort Field – Adding/Editing - Anki Manual .
  2. Search up all the New cards you want to re-order and sort by the “Sort Field” column.
  3. Select all > Cards > Reposition – start 0, step 1, uncheck both boxes.
  4. (Change the Sort Field back to what it was, if you like.)

This will work whether the cards have never been studied, or have been Reset to New.

  1. [As far as that particular add-on – having a tool re-sort your cards when you start Anki seems like it’s likely to cause issues. I’d advise against using that – especially since it hasn’t been updated in 4 years.] ↩︎
