I need help recovering my AnkiWeb collection after an accidental overwrite.
I normally use AnkiWeb directly in my web browser to study my vocabulary.
Today, 29 August 2026, my husband was trying to make some changes to my Anki collection, but his own Anki collection was accidentally synced/uploaded to my AnkiWeb account.
As a result, my original vocabulary decks and study progress disappeared, and my AnkiWeb account now shows his collection instead of mine.
Unfortunately, I use AnkiWeb in the browser and do not have a local Anki backup containing my original collection.
Could you please check whether there is a server-side backup of my AnkiWeb collection from before the accidental overwrite and restore the most recent available version?
The accidental overwrite happened on 29 August 2026 at approximately 22:30 CEST (Europe/Berlin time), although I am not certain of the exact minute and it may have been somewhat earlier or later.
I have stopped making further changes or syncs to the account.
The email address associated with this forum account is the same email address associated with the affected AnkiWeb account.
The last server-side backup in your account was made several days ago on/at [click for timestamp in your time zone]. Server-side backups are made much less frequently than local device backups, so there is nothing more recent than that. Please confirm if you want me to restore that to your account.
If this is something he does regularly – does he have a separate profile for you in his desktop Anki, that syncs to your AnkiWeb account instead of his? Or was he trying to set that up for the first time, and didn’t create a separate profile?
If he has an existing profile, and he’s synced it correctly more recently than that server-side backup was made, that would be a better place for you to recover from.
And looking ahead to the future, you should consider having your own profile on his computer, even if you won’t use it to study. That’s the best way for you to maintain your own copy of your collection, so you don’t have to rely on server backups in a situation like this. Separate profiles sync with separate AnkiWeb accounts, so it would be difficult to accidentally overwrite one collection with another. But even if you did, you’d have local backups to recover from.
