Request: Enable including New cards in Future Due display

I want to know how many cards I will be doing per day, which I expected to find in the Future Due visualization, but that display doesn’t include New cards and most of my cards are New.

I would like a way to see how many reviews + New cards will be due each day.

Is there a number that you think it might be that is different from what you have set for your daily New card limit?

New cards aren’t actually “due” on a day in a conventional sense. It’s more like you set an “allowance” of cards for the day.

Thanks for replying.

At some point I might run out of New cards, so there would be 20 fewer cards per day after that, and I would like to know when that is going to be – both if I do all 20 every day, or if I follow my current average rate of <20 New reviews per day.

It sounds like what you’re looking for is more of a simulator. If you’re using FSRS, there’s a simulator built in starting with version 24.11 – Deck Options - Anki Manual . If you’re using SM-2, there’s an add-on https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/817108664.

I’m using the simulator now but afaict it isn’t aware of how many cards are due in a deck. Is that right? For example in this deck I have 17 cards due but the simulator says “In 1 day” I will have “5 reviews”. Is there a way to get the simulation calibrated to the specific state of a particular deck? (cc @L.M.Sherlock) What I want to know is how many cards I’m expected to do at each day in the future for this deck, and that calculation would require accounting for the current state of the deck.

It’s a aware of how many cards are due in a preset.

My cards are organized into decks, which are almost all under the same Default preset.

Would it be possible to simulate a specific deck instead of a preset? Otherwise I don’t really understand what questions I would answer using the simulator, if it’s not accessing of Deck-level information. I want to know how many cards will likely be due in this deck, but I guess that’s not possible?

It’s possible if we refactor some codes. For example, we can add a search bar in the simulator module.

I was wondering if a “Sub Search” simulator option might be worth adding where it appends an extra search to the preset. e.g. You type deck:deck and it changes the search query to (preset:preset -is:suspended) (deck:deck).

As a workaround you can assign a deck a preset just briefly while you run the simulator, so long as you have the same weights it will probably be fine (although I’d update Anki as the simulator in the version you’re using has a bug).

My subdecks have different presets and different parameters. Can you make it so that I can simulate from the parent deck and see the total workload of the deck (including subdecks)? I believe that it might be slightly complicated to do because different subdecks have different parameters.

While it would be possible, for the reasons you have pointed out it would be quite complicated.

That would be nice to have indeed. I had to create multiple presets for my Kanken decks and I need to do multiple simulations to get an idea of what’s happening.

Perhaps, we can have a select presets/decks to simulate option in the simualtor? Is that really complicated to do? I assume you can just do simulations for different presets etc. and combine them to produce a single graph :bar_chart:?

In the simulator, does Review count per day (in the graph) include New cards or not?

Yep.
