After moving Anki to a new device yesterday some files seem to have not be transfered. As a result I am sadly missing around 600 to 1200 audio files. Check media reports these as missing.
In reference to similiar threads I have posted on anki.tenderapp but was redircted to his forum. Is there a way to restore the data from around morning 8.10. CEST or are the files lost?
I have checked my other Pc and the number of files are displayed correctly. However, when I try moving them Windows displays a error massage that the file cannot be transfered because it is missing. I also cannot find the file while searching in explorer. I was able to restore the shared deck audio files but my own are sadly still missing.
If it helps: the audio files have been created throught Anki Connect and Yomitan app.
The folder you should be looking for on desktop is collection.media â Managing Files - Anki Manual . On AnkiDroid, you can try Check Media first to see whether the files are there.
If you find them in one of your installs, you can try to copy them over via sync â log out of syncing, and log in again to prompt a re-scan of your media. Or copy them directly from device to device.
Hi, I used Check Media before and it displays the media is missing (on both systems). Syncing sadly did not help. I have attempted to copy them but the affected files cannot be copied as windows cannot find them. Here a screenshot:
Did you check your Android device too â opening it in airplane mode to be sure it does not sync?
Iâm not trying to have you jump through unnecessary hoops. There is also a way to recover deleted media from the AnkiWeb servers â and I can see that you have 4460 files deleted in the past 2 days. But (1) thatâs a lot more than the 526 files youâre missing, and (2) the process to restore media on the server side can be a little fussy and I donât want to put you through that unnecessarily.
I still donât quite understand this. It sounds like you can find them, but Windows says they arenât actually there? But I suppose fixing whatever is confusing Windows is beyond the scope of our discussion here.

Unfortunately I discovered that the files were missing when I was already learning on Anki Mobile. I assume that means that that they were already synced. I checked right now again and playing the files produces the error message âCard Content Error: Failed to loadâ.

The number of files possibly includes old exam decks which I got rid of. This explains why they are so high. Thanks for you concern and help! I really appreciate it.

Strangely when right clicking on the folder a bigger number of files are listed. Windows even recognices the file names. However, when you actually look into the file these do not exist and cannot be transfered. I have tried to look into this but I am puzzled why that could be.
Okay, it sounds like youâve done what you can! If you have all of your (currently in use) devices in sync now â please confirm if you want me to restore the media deleted from AnkiWeb in the past 2 days.
please restore the media deleted form AnkiWeb in the past 2 days. Thank you for your support. I hope that restores the date. If not, you did everything you could.
Deactivating media upload fixes the issue. In response I have tried the following: Deactivate Addons. Then Check Database and Check Media. Delete unused media files. Then force upload to Anik Web. However, when I synchronise, 415 files (which were deleted) get always added again. Here a part of the files:
Iâm so sorry I missed your response! Have you been able to sync successfully now, including your media?
You have to stop trying to delete your media until all of your devices are completely back in sync, including the unnecessary media. If you try to delete the media before that, AnkiWeb will âhelpfullyâ restore it for you to avoid any errors.
I have attempted the solution provided in âLost Media Filesâ and âCollection media deletedâ. Sadly to no avail. I have created a new account and tried synching the data there. This has resolved the issue for the new account.
It wasnât really your account, itâs a problem on the server. [Remember how reluctant I was to use the server-side restore process âŠ] Are you content to use your new account instead? If so, thatâs a fine way to proceed.
