Publish official Anki Sync Server Docker Images

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Building a docker image and keeping it updated is time consuming for selfhosters

Describe the solution you’d like
Publish official updated Anki Sync Server Docker Images with GitHub Actions

Describe alternatives you’ve considered
None

Self-hosting a sync server is an advanced feature, which requires a certain amount of extra work for the user. There are published directions, including an example and directions for Docker, but you shouldn’t expect additional assistance beyond that.

The way to avoid doing that extra work is to use AnkiWeb for syncing.

There is literally no reason to not just publish official prebuilt images.

Note that the Dockerfile is not maintained much by Anki maintainers despite being included in the repo. Building and publishing the images is an additional maintenance burden, but that might be reconsidered in the future.

I’m developing an add-on that makes it easy for general users to run a self-hosted server. Once installed the server starts automatically, it includes a UI for options, and if you use Tailscale you can connect online. (this is not affiliated with the official Anki) Docker is not supported yet because it’s probably difficult for general users.

I support this request. Official images would provide assurance of authenticity without relying on third-party images or rebuilding after every update.
