Problem with Sheets2Anki: Additional columns not imported correctly (3 columns)

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with the Sheets2Anki add-on while importing cards from a Google Sheets document. Here are the details:

  1. Context:
  • I am using the Basic note type (fields: Front, Back, Extra) in Anki.
  • My Google Sheets document contains 3 columns organized as follows:
Title | Known Word | Syn
1 | F | Syn1
22 | H | Syn2
333 | M | Syn3
  • I published this sheet as a CSV file to use with Sheets2Anki.
  1. Current configuration in Sheets2Anki:
  • Deck name: AnkiCSV.3
  • Column mapping:
    • Title → Front
    • Known Word → Back
    • Syn → Extra
  • I successfully synced the deck using Sync Decks.
  1. Issue encountered:
  • The data from the first two columns (Title and Known Word) is imported correctly into Front and Back.
  • The third column (Syn) does not import into the Extra field.
  • The Tags field also remains empty.
  1. Question:
  • Why is the Syn column not importing into the Extra field?
  • Are there any limitations with the Basic note type or the mapping for three fields?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Are you sure while importing you have selected the correct Basic notetype? What you have described is not the basic, Basic consists of only two fields: {{Front}} and {{Back}}

Hello SuhasK,

Thank you for your response and clarification regarding the Basic note type having only two fields (Front and Back). I was wondering if it’s possible to use a custom note type in Anki with additional fields (e.g., Front, Back, and Extra).

If yes, could you guide me on how to configure Sheets2Anki to map multiple columns from my Google Sheets file to these additional fields?

Thank you for your help!

Best regards, Teff

You don’t need to use an addon. You can directly import a csv file. When you import, there will be an option to select the Notetype you wish to import to and what column maps to what field. Read this to learn more.

Teff see you .. !!!

to have 3 fields in the basic note type, open the editor, click on fields > add > enter the field name > ok > save
