Plus symbol is added to deck name ("science" -> "science+") when there are no duplicates

When I first got Anki, I likely did mess around and make a deck called “science”, though that doesn’t show on my deck list so I assumed I deleted it. When I tried making a deck called “science” earlier (I was going to add different lessons and thought to organise my Anki), it didn’t appear.

The “science+” in the screenshot is from naming the deck something else on creation and only afterwards trying to change it to “science”.

I tried uploading my current data to Anki Web (just in case it was somehow using old data) but it still adds a plus. I apologise if it’s an easy fix.

Anki has a special “Default” deck that automatically hides itself if you both:

  • Have created your own decks
  • Have no cards in the “Default” deck.

I think you renamed “Default” to “science”, so you actually do have a “science” deck, it’s just hidden.

Here’s a little trick to make it reappear:

  1. Open the “Add” menu

  2. Select the deck

  3. Choose “Add”

  4. Type “science” (no plus, all lower case)

  5. Press “OK”

  6. Just put anything in the front field of the note (we are not allowed to create empty notes)

  7. Press “Add”

  8. Close the “Add” window

  9. Tada! The invisible “science” deck should have reappeared.

  10. Rename “science” back to “Default”

  11. Delete the note we just made (“Default” will disappear again)

  12. Rename “science+” to “science”

This worked, thank you!
