Please, implement Mathjax 4.0

Mathjax 4.0 has been released, and this means the possibility of replacing computer modern. Is on the table?

I am not sure how much is required for a switcharoo, or what is required for testing. Can I get a confirmation that this will likely be an addition? Or are there no current plans to incorporate it into Anki

Given it was only released last week, I don’t think there are plans to upgrade to it yet.

Do you have a specific need served by the upgrade?

There are many bugs related to mathjax and the editor. I’d rather have those fixed first.

It has been in the makings for years now, so should be good enough to get it soon.

I’m most excited about the fonts and the HTML support.

Docs:

HTML support: Support for HTML in MathML and TeX — MathJax 4.0 documentation

We got new fonts, but this one is the most exciting part: Extended Font Support — MathJax 4.0 documentation

Question for anyone informed: will the HTML support allow us to modify [...] in clozes with colours etc.? Have anyone tried this?

Mostly the reason is fonts. Also, I am hoping, that it is faster. Though I have yet to check this.

My card template selects a random font every time a new card is shown. I would like to do this for math fonts as well. It is a small, but nice measure against overfitting I think.

I’ve logged this on Investigate MathJax 4.0 · Issue #4277 · ankitects/anki · GitHub
